NINE MONTHS from now, Sarawakians will not only be witness to an effort to break a world record, but will be part of a Guiness World Record-breaking attempt to accomplish a simple yet difficult feat: walking backwards for a distance of 1km.
The Guinness World Record attempt for walking backwards, or doing the retro walk, with the theme ‘OMG! A World Record Event At Your Doorstep’ is hoped to involve thousands of Sarawakians from all backgrounds. The 1km retrowalk will be held on Oct 16 at Jubilee Ground, Kuching.
Previously, the same attempt was carried out in China which saw only about 1,000 participants turn up to make a world record, and to break this record, there will have to be more than 1,000 participants in this retrowalk.
In his text speech read by Social Development (Urban Youth) Assistant Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at the launching of the Imagine Retrowalk Guiness World Record attempt at Plaza Merdeka January 16, Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan said that creating a Guiness World Record was a very serious matter and the government would give assistance that could make the event successful.
Besides the World Record breaking attempt, the event will also be creating fund for charitable bodies like the Sarawak Autistic Association, Hope Place, Sarawak Cancer Association, Habitat and Peryatim.
FUN: Yoyo performance by Ryan Han, member of the Yo Blitz, one of Sarawak’s renowned talents. |
The early registration of participants will start on Jan 23 to Oct 15 and those interested can contact through the Imagine RetroWalk Facebook page or at 082-455259 for further inquiries.
